Ori stopped and turned to his older brother, he hoped he did not look as downcast as he felt right now. “…I suppose not…” his eyes jumped to some trees besides them then back to Nori “…I really did not mean to hurt you…”

“No, I deserved it.  I’ve been a terrible brother.”

Really, why were they on this bloody journey in the first place?  For a home that was never theirs?  Sure the gold was a mighty strong draw for Nori, but…

“We can get Lai and Molly and just run.”

“No” Ori took some big steps towards his brother until he was almost nose to nose with him “Don’t you say that, you are a great older brother!”

He had never seen Nori like this, so downcast and sad. At least not that he could remember it but then maybe his brother was a better actor than he gave him credit for.

“And go where? We already signed up to help them. Those are our friends, we cannot leave them”

“Ori, we didn’t sign up for a mad king.  A mad king who hates me, by the way.”

But…leave the lads to deal with him instead?  That was the coward’s way out.  Lucky for him, he was a coward!

But then they’d hate him, too.

“…who…hasn’t killed me yet, I suppose…”

“…I’m… sorry…?” Oris face did fall as soon as his brother had finished his first sentence, he had not intended to start a fight with Nori… “…let’s go back to the others… I guess if you already look for me Dori will…” his mouth closed with an audible click “…nevermind”

“To be honest, I have no idea where Dori is.  But…do we really need to go back?”

“Oh so it’s a yes” There was a brilliant smile on his face now “What did they do to you? Turn you into my ma?” Ori put an arm around his brother and pulled him closer “You should think they know who of us is the runaway” It probably was meant more playful than it sounded but Nori had always been the one he could joke with. In a manner most would not expect at all and Dori would not approve of.

“They do.  They have made it quite clear they do.”  Nori glared at nothing for a moment before his eyes flicked to Ori.  ”And you know wot?  I may not worry like Dori does but I still worry.  I’m just not as…suffocating.”

Ori softly loosened one of his brothers hands and smiled at him - slightly edgy and forced “There is no need to worry about me you know that. I’m a big boy, Ada” Usually it had been Dori that he addressed as such when he was really tiny, not Nori.

The smirk was rather unusual for him but he could not help but feel slightly amused about this fussing “Did a greyface get you brother?”

Nori sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.  ”That isn’t the point.”

Ori took a long moment in which he just looked at his brother - the one that usually did not fuss over him all the time… even when he was at home for a change “Did you catch something from Dori…?”

“I—no.”  He frowned, part of him knowing this was not how he acted.  ”I just…I…I was worried.”

Yes, he had been known to worry over his brothers.  Well, he knew it.  Others…others didn’t.  And he wasn’t a fussbucket.  For the most part.  He had his moments.  Not like Dori, but…

The suspicion is Ori’s face just killed him.

The hug took him by surprise, now something was very wrong indeed… this did not feel like Nori at all.

“Are you… all right?” He took a quick look down at the hands holding him tight and secure “You seem… upset?”

“Of course I’m upset.  I couldn’t find you!”

“…and why… were you looking for me?”

“Because I couldn’t find you.  I was worried!”

Ooooooh, he had misplaced Ori.  Where’d the little one go.  This was bad.  Bad bad bad bad bad.  What if he was hurt?  Or alone?  Or hurt and alone?  Yep, this was bad.  This was like the worst thing ever.

“Ori?” the thief called out, hoping his brother would hear him.

Noris voice threw his brothers attention right away. His brother sounded upset, maybe even on the border to panic and this was NOT normal - something must have had happened!

“Nori?”

Ah!  There he was.  Nori followed his voice and soon as he found him, he pulled him into a quick hug before holding him at arm’s length and glaring.  ”And where the bloody fuck were you?”
